Just aquired honda 7.5 outboard serial# ?

just traded a old sears tractor for honda 7.5 outboard. where is the serial number located?Thought problem with shift handle, but i find it turns if in gear. color is blue and white and looks like yellow prop.seems a little older model but in nice shape any pointers before i hit the water and try her out? and if i find serial number maybe someone could give year made. thanks in advance!one more thing please,its seems like xtra long shaft is honda 20" for long and 28" for xtra long?

You should try to get your self a service manual.<br />On most outboards usually the model number is more helpful. It usually appears on the mounting bracket somewhere.I'm no expert but as far as I know your motor is a 4 stroke.So the first thing, if you don't know the history, will be an oil change for the powerhead and the lower unit.Look in the FAQs for waking a sleeping outboard.You also may want to check for handling and storage tips for your particular motor.Small motors usually are 15 inch or 20 inch length.It is measured from the bracket where it rests on the top of the transom to the antivent plate just above the prop.Demension will be close to the 15" or 20" mentioned.I'm sure there will be a Honda expert along soon with better info.<br /> Good luck
