The reason it says 88hp on your cover is because it's an 88 SPL(Special), it's a 90hp motor without VRO and T&T(Trim and Tilt).

Just as a reference for you,(I usually find this helpful at the pump), this is the formula for mixing 50:1.

Gallons of gas X 128 divided by 50 = ounces of oil

Example:

13 gallons X 128 = 1,664, divided by 50 = 33.28 ounces of oil.

Easy enough to do real quick on a cell phone calculator at the pump. Just change the divided by number for whatever ratio you want to run, for 25:1 you would divide by 25 instead of 50 and so on.

Good luck with the new boat.

What I use is a bottle I got at walmart that has the oil ratio printed on it. Just look for 50:1 then find the gallons of gas and fill the bottle to that mark with oil. I usually buy my oil in the gallon jug and keep it in my tool box on the truck. I keep the oil mix bottle in a dry storage of the boat. Its just handier for me than using a calculator. It cost less that $2.

Found the solution to the rought starts / not so hot performance - One of the spark plug wires was corroded and hanging free. Apparently, these motors prefer all cylinder to be working.

-rj
