I'm a newbie and was wondering how good this engine is and if there is anything I should be aware of.

Don't have history of the engine but did see it run (out of the water). Ran nice and water flowed from cooling tube.

My in-laws have an 88 GT-150 on their 1850 Cajun F/S It runs like a scared cat 50+ MPH. At least it did before they parked the boat for the past couple of years. Hasn't been on the water in a while. The problems they had were carb related since it sits alot and one of the tilt trim relays went out. I wish I had one.

What kind of boat or did you just get the motor alone?

Unfortunatly, running on the muffs doesn't necessarily mean that the motor is ready to go. You really need to put it on the water and run it at various RPMs including WOT. Did you get any background info like, hours, maintenance schedule, repairs made etc...?

I bought the motor for my 73 trihull 16'

The fellow I am buying it from is going to help me put it on my boat tomorrow. He does not have history on the engine but has had it on the water and says it runs good.

He lives right by the lake so I will hopefully take it right over after install.

That is a very good engine. Make sure you install drag chutes on that 16 footer cause you are gonna fly with the 150Gt pushing her.
