Awesome Linda, you are my dream woman, just don't tell SWMBO, ;)

Seriously, I can't even get my wife to drive the boat, forget pulling it on the trailer with my truck. And here you are working on yours, BRAVO!

Aww that's so sweet...I won't tell, it's our secret LOL. I'm just not afraid to try. We've got some great neighbors who helped take the engine off, got my thru hull pipes made at no charge...they just shake their heads and smile.

Once this transom is solid the boat should last forever. We'd like to restore the trailer, it's a 1957 Gator tilt trailer. Was originally yellow with red wheels...I don't know if I'm seeing that though.

Any ideas on how to get the green corrosion off the dash rail? Looks like what accumulates around a battery, no rust. I'm afraid to take a wire brush to it.

I'd like to do something with the steering wheel too, hope to keep it because it has the little MFG emblem in the center.

P.S I fish too LOL

Re: Just bought a 63 Niagara

Restoring the trailer will be the easiest part. I took a grinder to mine, ground off all the rust I could get too and used Naval Gel on the rest of it. Then used some bondo to smooth out any roughness left behind. Shot 2 coats of primer on it using big sheets of cardboard to protect the boat hull, and then 3 coats of navy blue. I even added silver pinstriping to mine. Then I found some wheels that almost match the ones on my truck.

The boat and trailer are both 1982's BTW. The trailer had been parked behind a marina every since the boat was bought new. It was literally rust colored instead of white!

As far as the corrosion goes, I'd try some aluminum polish, it that doesn't work, maybe try lightly buffing it with some steel wool.

Great looking boat BTW !!!!!

You don't bait your own hooks do you? Be still my beating heart, ;)

She does bait her own hook and does mine too!! She's graduated from doing worms to running a fishing hook through the eyes of creek chubs. She wears a leather glove when she does this though...she just can't get past the bare hand thing. LOL This is a pic of me and the "fatcat" I pulled out of the Ohio River last night!! Woooo Hooooo!!

Great looking boat Dubya, both look brand new! I love the top rack and canopy, we'd like to get one of those little canopy's for ours. Do you fish?

Re: Just bought a 63 Niagara

I try to fish, but me and fish seem to have this understanding, they hide, and I can't find them. That is why I bought a ski boat instead of a bass boat. I love to fish though, just don't turn me loose on a lake and expect me to figure out where to go. Let me go with someone else and I'll catch as many fish as anyone else and have a blast.

And thanks, I obviously added the wake board tower and the bimini top. Added the tower when our boys, (now men), started wakeboarding instead of skiing. Pulled the ski pole out of the floor one day trying to get the oldest up. Added the bimini top so SWMBO would quit complaining about how hot she was when I'd double back to pick up one of the boys after a fall. It does make it much cooler underneath it though, so we've both enjoyed it.
