So just bought my first boat a 1993 alumactaft 170 ltd with a 1987 evinrude 110 v4 vro. We were looking to get it ready to take out since it has been sitting since October. The previous owner is on vacation and I don't want to bug him. I know dumb question but this is a 50 to 1 mix right if so do I just put the oil with the gas tank because I don't see anything other way for the oil?

Thanks is there a way to see how much the gas tank holds? Also you just fill with gas the poor the oil in? Any recommendations on oil also 91 gas like with small engines? Sorry again my first boat I'm use to small engines not Marie motors.

Best read up on outboard maintenance.-----Install a new water pump impeller now.-----Do a compression test for future reference.----Post your values here.

They market an oil made to their specification.----BRP does not run a refinery.------I think they now have a different brand ( XPS marine ? ) other than BRP for their oil too.

There's a lot to go over if this boat is new to you. You should check out all subsystems. Do not rely on someone else's experience. For instance, I don't see a definitive comment, is the VRO bypassed for certain or are we just talking? If the VRO is working then do not premix your fuel. You'll run too rich, no? Are we commenting because you think you have a VRO problem?
Put a timing light on each cylinder. Easy test.
Lower unit should get an oil change and check (seals) for water.
Water pump impeller should be new-to-you. Do not gamble. Change it and the associated grommets, get a drive key too just in case you lose the old one.
Is the thermostat working properly? Watch running temp with an infrared thermometer.
Change your spark plugs. They're cheap.
Get on line and watch a few videos. Everything is out there. From how to start to how to rebuild. It's all there.
Get a hardcopy book, remember those, on repairing outboards, generic, cheap.
