So I just upgraded from my small, light, skinny 12ft aluminum loweline boat to a 1981 Alumacraft 14ft "Missourian", with a 1978 Johnson Seahorse 25hp Electric. Here are my general questions:

I cant seem to find any specifics on the "Missourian" stamp? Certain model made? Someone made a custom sticker??

The other is, I have a 1983 Mercury 4.5hp that is a really nice running motor, and I am wondering if I should keep it and throw it on this 14ft as a kicker? I am going to be completely honest here when I say that I am not positive what the purpose of a kicker is? My guess would be for a back-up if one breaks down, and maybe for economy for certain situations? How far off am I here?

As always, thanks for the wisdom!

You understand the purpose of a "kicker" completely. In this area they are often referred to as "trolling motors". Whenever you are going to be traveling slowly for long periods, such as when trolling while fishing, use the smaller more economical motor. This also dates back to the time when large outboards would often foul their spark-plugs if run at low speeds for long periods. The smaller motor would be used, saving the large motor for higher speed operation. The smaller motor was also available as an emergency "spare" motor - slower, but it would get you home.
Sorry I can't help with your other question.

Yep, you definitely have an understanding of what a kicker is. I carry a 4HP with me as a backup motor. Haven't had to use it for that yet and I firmly believe that its mere presence keeps my 85 running :) My concern would be the weight of 2 motors hanging off the transom all the time on this small a boat. I store my extra motor in the bow when I'm not using it.
