I just bought my first boat yesterday. It is a beautiful Alumacraft with a good running 1959 5.5 Hp Johnson. I was told he thought it was 'probably' a 1962. I called Alumacraft today, and discovered that it was the 74th FD model ever made in 1955. Oh... what have I gotten myself into. I love it. It goes great with my 1973 Scotty camper, and 1963 Ford truck. I'm sure that I will be looking for lots of advice. I hope that this site can eventually help me out as much as those fanatics on the Scotty camper sites...

Thank God for the Internet,
Eric

Oh... by the way... I need to strip a bunch of Royal Blue Rustoleum off of a 1955 Alumacraft and refinish it. Any suggestions?

Re: just getting feet wet

You have a wonderful boat.

My uncle bought a 1956 FD new and it's still used by his family. Some of my best boating memories are in that boat and because of that at 18 I bought my first boat, a new 1968 FD. Now it's my only boat and it will outlive me. So many stories to tell running it 40 years now.

About stripping paint... use the search feature here. There's many ways with varying results.
