Changing out an engine the previous one a 60hp mariner has tilt/trim mounted on the transom mount. The new old engine has it's tilt/trim motor right inside the transom. Has anyone done this or will I have to drill holes above transom and design something to keep the motor out of the elements. Being it is a marine application can this motor just be screwed to the floor or what? For the record I am changing out a 1996 mariner 60 elpto with a 1966 mercury 650 on a 1996 mitch craft 516 center console. Please advise if you can.

Your new motor has the 4 hydraulic hoses that run from the trim cylinders to the trip pump/reservoir? if so, the holes for the hoses should be above waterline, usually on top of splashwell. There was a fitting to waterproof the hose entries to the hull.
