Thanks for all the info guys, really appreciate it. When I start in on the motor, I will look on the starter and choke to see if they are 12 or 6V and go from there. Lot's of good information here, thanks for sharing.

Finally got around to putting the carb kit in and checking out the starter and choke solenoid - both were already upgraded to 12V evidently, so no worries there.

After putting carb kit in, got it going in the test tank and it tuned up nicely and runs like a champ....quite strong too I might note. Can't wait to get everything set up on the boat and take this puppy to the lake, but that will have to wait until spring after I have finishe the boat....guess that means I have to get started at some point!! Thanks for your posts.

so, the cutoff switch on these outboards is not the same sort of thing that my I/O has? In other words, for protecting the gears when shifting from forward to reverse?
