More pics of engine please that being said if that engine works well I would sure keep it for a while, it looks later model and in decent appearance wise thats for sure.

$500 will get you mostly crap without controls in the world of larger outboards and its easy to get snookered on a purchase like that as well.
Those portable boat tanks seem nice for a rig like that, I bet that 25hp is a real fuel pincher.

Re: Just got a boat?

stick with what you have for now. A decent Yam 4 stroke 50, if you can find one, will cost you way more than the gas you aren't burning in your 25. be patient. You have a good rig for a 14 year old.
work on the math: "I had my grandpa teach me all about boating and then he passed when i was 11years old back in 2003." Then compare the cost the gas you use with a 25, double it, and add $1200 for a 4 stroke 50. You won't have any $16's left to go out (is that you launch fee?)

Re: Just got a boat?

This is the way i do stuff with my boat. If i can work enough to get the money for it guess what i'm spending every cent i earned on my boat. If you got the money spend it on what you want. I went to west marine today and i wanted to get some new stuff to make the boat look better i walked out spending $160 and last weekend spending $150. I got what i want for the boat. I'm just trying to say work for what you want but don't be asking your family or friends to lend you money or give you it.

Re: Just got a boat?

Thanks man and all you guys for your help. I have my Florida boating license and a fire extinguisher so I am set. Should i get speakers in the boat? I will be going to my dock today and will upload some pics of the beauty.lol. again thank you all so much for helping me. And would a fish finder be necessary because i do go fishing alot and what other stuff is it worth the money to get a permanent gas tank installed?
I had to work my *** of to get that GPA with all the highschool courses.. Now i can relax

Thanks,

Turner
You need a lot more than a fire extinguisher. Get in contact with your state boating officials to find out exactly what. Don't even put the boat in the water until you take a safety course.

Forget the speakers...when you are in the boat you need to be concentrating on being a boater, not listening to music.

Forget the other add-ons as well. First learn how to be a boater. Save your money because you have no idea how much a baot costs in the long run.

Don't for one minute think you can relax now. Now is just the beginning, and it'll get 100 times harder from now on. You need to work even harder in High School to get good grades so you can get into a good college. And even if you get a scholorship, you'll still need a job for gas and insurance money to be able to keep the boat.

Most of all, don't forget to take your Grandma out for the first boat ride. And be sure to take your Dad, Grampa, Uncle or whomever along regularly too. Time goes by much too quickly. My Grampa helped me build my first boat when i was about your age. Every new motor or new accessory he was the first to go with me and see how it worked. Now that i can enjoy and afford the really good stuff, he's no longer here to be the first mate.

Re: Just got a boat?

i kinda agree with jim but i understand that you want to make your boat look the coolest and be the best. Don't worry i'm doing the same. I'm putting a awesome sound system in in this spring. Always take out your parents and elders first. i took my dad out every time and he had to rip me away from the steering wheel to let drive. :) i'm a bit attached. And what jim sayed kinda learn how to boat go out with some one that's bin boating a while and go with them a few times and tell them you want to know every thing you can. also look online theres courses you can take i took one it helps out a lot. but keep some money aside for break done's and unexpected stuff but buy what ever you want for the boat.

BOAT Break out another thousand. BOAT a hole in the water we throw money into desperately trying to fill it up. These are not from Websters but are as true as I know it. My grandpas died when I was young too. Thank God he gave me some time at the lake with them before they passed. That is the major reason I love the lake and pray my kids and grandchildren will remember me there also. Great boat man. If you have all the safety equipment and your parents support you in your grades and boating get that set of speaker you want. Radios are hard to hear underway but make fishing a pleasure.
