I have a 1996 Maxum.

It had a stalling problem when I first took it out on the lake. I used the service manual the previous owner included and reset the idle. Still didn't really fix it. I sea foamed it and it ran much better. Then I tried taking the carbs off and cleaning them.

Well now it does a VERY strang thing. When I go full throttle it gets to 2400rpms and will not go any higher. Its almost like it loads up. If I rev it in neutral alot then go into gear it will go past that 2400 mark.

I set the carb mixture screws as per the manual and found the engine idles/runs best at 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 turns.

I need some idea's. I'm totally new to these boats. Tomorrow I'm going to try a compression check, but it ran fine before up to 5000rpm.

Use the manual and do a link and sync.

I went through the same thing with my 91 120 Force. It turned out to be one of the "Power Pack" modules or "IDM" modules (one of two blue boxes with a bunch of wires going in and out of them.) These boxes coordinate and send spark to the ignition coils and spark plugs. You are probably only running on two cylinders. I got a repair manual, ordered the part, and replaced it myself and it was running better than before. It took a little bit of time figuring out the wiring diagrams, but with a little patience I was able to figure it out. Read the book carefully. When you are doing the spark test to figure out which module is bad, you have to disconnect the stop circuit.
Good luck!
