I don't think I'd go cutting up the floor on a boat like that. Or are you talking about the two square blocks in the stern under the splash well? anyway, it's probabky not that big a problem. It's not like you have a waterlooged rotted out bayliner bowrider there.

You are correct. I have been researching the Carolina Skiff forum and it appears to be common with them and a lot of boats. For what I paid for it (not what I have in it now :) ) I plan on running it till the gelcoat wears off.

It does not tow heavy, sit or ride heavy in the water, and got up on plane quickly with three people and 3/4 tank of fuel on board. Only a scale will tell the tale.

I knew I bought a project, but not that extensive for now. There is a youtube video of a guy with a skiff who drilled his transom and added a garboard drain for this very issue.

I plan to keep it covered and re-seal everything (hatches, console/captains chair screws, scupper drains etc.) just to keep it from getting worse.

Electrothermal valve, thru-hull scupper fitting, drain well thru-hulls and nav light receptacle should be in today. Plan is to install everything, and while marine-tex and 5200 is curing I will get the carbs installed/tuned, re-seal some hatches and get ready to run her.

Been awhile so I thought I would update;

Carb kits checked great on the water. Also was happy that the bilge had absolutely no water after 2 hours on the lake. I have since added the following;

Garmin GPS740 with transom mounted transducer (transducer mount turned out great!)
Minn Kota riptide with Ipilot
Relocated the trolling battery to under the console and added a new circuit breaker for the trolling motor
Inexpensive radio and speakers/antenna
I added 2 guest chargers, one for the cranking battery and one for the trolling battery. Got a good deal, and the batteries are too far apart for a dual bank charger without splicing wires.
Completely replaced all trailer bunk boards/carpet/hardware, new galvanized rims/repacked bearings and new seals.
New LED trailer lights all around.

Been on the water with the wife and daughter and we love it. Dependable but not so new that I am afraid to run it up into the bushes for a bite......

Also, recovered the captains seat and front seat just forward of the console (did it myself)

Fabricated a new piece of windshield out of plexiglass from lowes.

For those wondering, yes I tend to over do things, but hope to enjoy this little rig for awhile.

Have been learning a lot from this forum, and just want to thank everyone for their willingness to share with other folks.

I just skimmed through but earlier you made a couple comments about it being "100% composite" Wood with fiberglass over it IS 100% composite construction.... IE composite = composed of 2 or more materials bonded together

You are correct. Although the Carolina Skiff website has a great explanation of their hull construction. I will never take it for absolute fact, but I have had the thru-hull scupper drains, transom plug and other thru-hull fittings out. Looked closely with a flashlight and pick, and also looked at shavings from drilling new holes and have found zero wood so far on the transom or hull.
