1985 evinrude 60 hp
...... I replaced the stator and pickup coil and removed the white trigger? Without marking it. I was talking to my buddy and not paying attention to what I was doing... Story of my life. How do I align it all back up.im ordering a book but will take time to get here.hoping someone here would know. image.jpgimage.jpg

Look closely at the top surface of the seat that the sensor sits upon. You'll see a very slight bevel there. Align the sensors vertical edge up with the top inside line of that bevel. That's it.

What about the charge coil and stator?

Same setup..... top inside edge of the bevel.

That's the first mention of having the engine backfiring... I wasn't aware of that problem.

Backfiring such as a shotgun blast out the exhaust... OR... a slight pressure spitback type noise appearing to come from the carburetor area?

If a shotgun blast type backfire = Sheared flywheel key, wires crossed either at timer base or s/plug area.

If a spitback type backfire = Engine running lean due to fouled carburetor or carburetor adjustments/linkages.

Is this an unsuccessfull attempt to start the engine... OR... is the engine running and this "backfire" takes place every so often?

Sorry did not mean still.it just started it.it does it threw the exhaust and runs bad and idled high.i am about to replace the ball joints on the throttle advance linkage.it is very loose.ill let you know what happens.it was removed because it needed a stator and coil it was leaking and no charge.
