Just me or is traffic down on iboats?

Seems to me that there is not the huge volume of posts this year that I recall from past years. I also don't see as many boat restoration projects (or maybe they are not being documented like they have in the past).

Could it be that the price of operating boats has taken a toll on these forums?

I was on ebay browsing for used outboards and it seems that there are not as many outboards for sale. But there are lots of boats for sale.

Just a reflection of the times?

I think traffic is up, but not in DC like it use to be. Keep in mind they changed things around and made more catagories to help direct the traffic to specified areas. At least that is what I think,,,,,,,,,,at least maybe I thought so?......SS

The weather is better for most of us. I would not be posting now, but I am forced dockside for the moment. Some of us have lost our connections temporarily (Ohio floods for example).

Sweat not. Peace be unto you. Things will get busy around here before any of us aree ready for it.

Traffic up in in/outboards; join in and help, threads are getting stale, due to no answers?

I've always noticed a drop in posts when the weather turns nice for us northern boaters. I usually see the "I'm bored" threads when cabin fever sets in.
Even the southern boaters seem to get out more this time of year.
And Blimey thet's a good thing!:D

Well, here in eastern Iowa, the water is too high for boating and probably will be for another month or so.

Yup, take a couple of my own threads for example, but my threads were in different parts of the forums like electronics, and boat topics and questions.

I had one thread on an antique trolling motor, one person was kind enough to give me his knowledge on it but I never got any clue to what year it is. I found a thread here in Iboats on the same trolling from back in 2004 and nobody even responded to the man's thread.

The other was on an aluminum boat that I am trying to identify. :(

I'm with you mark, folks don't seem to be chatty as they were before, I'm not. I got my " new" boat out today for the first time, ran great, I will be boating a lot more. It cruised at 34 mph, and about (guessing) 3gph on lake Hopatcong. It was a ghost town, now to sell my bay cuddy, got the engine fixed. runs nice, but its a easier tow so I am attached, buuut it should go.

When you sign on go to the very bottom and check out how many people are on. There are usually 3 to 5 "guests" for each member.

Total on the site has been creeping up, not down. Hit 452 earlier today. Top was over 600 back last July. I expect we will exceed that this summer.

The JohnnyRude forum gets about 3 pages of threads (over 100) a day this time of year and is on track.

I haven't been posting for long, but sometimes the answer to my post is "search the forum". I have noticed that a lot of the new post start out "I have searched the forum but did not find a specific topic about..." I imagine that quite a few more people actually searching and finding the info. they are after.

Only down here for a few PM's to some left, that I have dealt with before. We have lost a lot of "old school wrenches" here..(catch some old brought up threads!).
And the boating industry is pretty well flat, if not in the hole. Friend here runs a Boaters World..(Puget Sound..million boats).
Ready to lock the doors.
Without getting banned again, (be the 3rd time)...for just posting the worlds problems thoughts in D/C, I need to say this, as we are all in together by the way, I think a problem.
I used to run through all the Forums, give the free advice from 50 years twirling a wrench, then come down here, and "vent" a touch, the "stuff" screwing up our life as we grew up with. and know. We got nothing else to go by do we?
The new D/C rules...have done more harm, than good. But who am I too say. I'm gonna post this, then log off again, beer and a bowl of Popcorn..stop by and "guest". Still good reading...lots of smart people here, with years of knowledge....IBoats really needs to re-think the "rules"...gotta let people "vent"...times are tough...Scaaty

It seems to me even the folks with 12 months of liquid water boat more and post less this time of year.
Simply an unscientific observation.

I'm thinking about getting a wireless connect card for the Laptop, so I can post while I"m boating.........:D:D:D

Re: Just me or is traffic down on iboats?

What I notice is the difference in the number of new resto/rebuild projects. In 2003 -2005 there were more members rebuilding boats, constant "chatter" on what they were doing and how it was coming, links to parts we needed in the mega mall left and right and photo updates almost daily.

People who have boats and need help with an engine problem, etc, apparently are still coming here. But the lack of boat projects tells me that people are not getting into boating at the same rate as they were a few years ago.

Just my observation.

Mark, i think you hit it square on. those with boats, are keeping them running. a lot of resto work was people who were trying to get into boating, by restoring an older boat. true there were the addicted people like me, who just could not quit. the economy has hit, my resto projects hard. i've had to cut back.
we have a relative small craigslist here. we are getting over 150 new listings on used boats a day.
