Not interested in stirring up forgotten debates. No need to reason or justify responses (there-in lies the challange). Just plain old fashioned curiosity:

What brand of 2 cycle outboard engine do you have?

What brand of oil do you use in it?

Re: Just plain ole Curious

Johnson/Evinrude and one darn Viking that managed to slip in and annoy me!!

Amsoil HPI - Works good, but I going to try whatever Synthetic is cheap next
Various conventional TC-W3 outboard oils (Castrol, OMC and store brands)

Once I get through all my testing I plan to find one synthetic and stick with it. Synthetic only because I run a lot of 24:1 outboards and its easier to just buy one oil for all my motors instead of synthetic for the classics and conventional for the newer ones.

Mercury-Penzoil -synthic-blend.
Ziemann, I was using Klotz in my New HUSKY chain saw and it scored the cylinder so bad I lost compression. Have no idea why, but I now use SITHL synthetic chain saw oil in my chain saw instead of KLOTZ synthetic M/C racing oil.

I've had good luck with the Klotz especially in snowmobile racing applications where we are turning some ungodly RPM's. It has great low temp flow characteristics (-50 F) and burns nice and clean. Engines look fantastic on tear down. There is very little smoke....

I use it in my Johnson 90 because I already have it on the shelf. Plugs are always clean. I have normal piston wash, and it is nice using a 2 stroke carb'd engine with very little smoke... It is a very high end ester based synthetic- the good stuff....

Sorry- didn't intend to hijack this thread.....

75 HP Merc -- it drinks Pennzoil Synthetic Blend but alternates are Cabela's Synthetic Blend and store brand conventional TCW3.

I run penzoil in everything 2 and 4 stroke. I also use penzoil lower unit fluid, and love that hand pump that comes with the starter kit. The only oil I have not found made by penzoil is chain bar oil.
