This is why you ALWAYS store your fuel tanks empty, not full! Gas that you haven't bought yet won't go bad.

That's always been my theory too. I run the tank down as much as possible so I can put as much fresh gas in the tank during spring.

Although, now I see this heading to a full vs empty route...... Condensation etc.........

I use portable tanks and I usually empty them after the last trip in late fall and leave them empty over the winter. I had no idea that I was going to suddenly get sick last spring and not be in shape to worry about leaving gas in one tank over the winter. I mulled it over pretty good before I finally decided that since condensation isn't as much of a problem here with our dry, desert, climate as it is a lot of places and I had the smaller tank for a backup, I'd take a chance on using last years gas. As far as I can tell it worked all right this time but I don't anticipate doing it again if I can help it.

The 8 year old gas could be used for starting brush piles burning on a farm, but could still be highly explosive. I would save it for that. We have a good pile of brush every couple years from deadfalls, etc.

Yeah I don't live on a farm... Plus isn't it illegal?

I have yet to have any issues with Ethanol and gumming up my carbs. Running the engine dry is usually what I try to do with power equipment I use seasonally. I always treat my gas cans with Ethanol stabil and a little Sea Foam too. For seasonal stuff like snowmobiles, I just treat the gas with "Stabil (Ethanol) type" and call it good. Never an issue yet. Lawn mowers and leaf blowers get run out of gas at the end of the season.

In the body shop business,I learned 40 years ago that gas goes bad,way before I ever heard of ethanol....

I can't use a portable tank on my boat unless it was 20 gallons or bigger cause of my gas guzzling mercruiser 260HP V8.

Burning gas is illegal? Uh-oh

Well I could use it for starting the fire in my fire pit. Best fire pit ever too. For years I bought store ones and always the next year it would rot out. I saw while camping a fire pit made from a washing machine tub. It was from an old top loader and was made of steel or cast iron with a porcelain coating on the inside.
Best thing I ever made. Never rusted either.
