Hey guys,
Just bought a Mariner 150, 2.5L and looking for some basic info and tips you may have. I moved on from a 70HP Evinrude and learned some good tips along the way such as adding a tell-tale. Don't know much about this one other that it is a '93. (serial 0D2228**) I haven't even taken the cowl off yet but would love some input. Is it wise to disable oil injection system? Is it fuel injected? Based off of serial number, anyone know the exact markings of the engine? XRI, ELPTO...I did check the above forum on "what is my year," it did give me the year but not the exact markings. I will purchase manual soon, but would love to hear your experiences, both good and bad with this engine.
Thanks guys!

That motor is a good design. I recommend a water pressure gauge. There should be a water hose from the top of the block to the base of the block. That is the place to install the gauge nipple, unless you have a brass tee in the cylinder head.

The '93 Merc I have came as a premix motor. I therefore have no experience with the Autolube system, or alarms.

I was able to get the cowl off and take a peek. The boat I bought does have a pressure guage. I will have to track it down and see if it is for water or oil and where it is being measured. Water I would guess. A quick look showed 3 carbs so its not fuel injected. The top carb feeds the top two cyls and so on? Does have a tell-tale taken from the tops of both heads, thats good! The Rudes had problems with air pockets building up at the top of the heads....Oil Injection...love the idea but kind of scary! If you premix, at least you have some peace of mind. Too disable or not to disable...?
