so i just started my 80hp mercury 4cyl. today after just rebuilding the carbs. Now fuel is leaking from the front of the carb and only the top carberator. Heres the video
Fuel leaking out the top carb is likely float stuck and not closing the neddle on the seat. might be a bad seat or needle or float if they were not replaced. Did you check the float level setting and make sure the float was moving the needle as it should? Should be easy fix as you have already have new gaskets and know how to get the carb off the easy way. If the botton carb is working good I would leave it on the motor and just work on that top carb. thanks, i did not replace the floats just let everything soak and cleaned everything out and used a blow tip to clean the passages in the carb. its idles and starts now and wouldnt before. I noticed after letting it run for about 15 min it would stop but if i would squeeze the bulb it would jet out of that part in the carb
If you're squeezing the bulb and its jetting out of the carb, it has to be needle/seat issue. As the bowl fills up, it raises the float which in turn pushes the needle into the seat. Then the needle pushes into the seat, it closes off the fuel inlet, obviously yours isn't closing off.
Some Mercs have replacable seats, some do not. My '77 Merc Thurderbolt 500 has replacable needles but permanent seats.
well took apart the top carberator and noticed the rubber seat was missing were the needle goes, so just ordered the seat kit that comes with the rubber seat, copper gasket and new needle. thanks for the help on this, im guessing when i used the blow gun on the carb i might of accidently blew it out. il give you guys an update when i replace the needle and seat
