Well we had a heavy day of tubing and swimming on the pontoon last Saturday. Left the boat uncovered cause the carpet was pretty soaked down the middle.

Well get up early Sunday, storm on the way. Went ahead and tarped it, wet carpet and all. I did put a fan at the rear door blowing out the front door. Works pretty well to keep air moving. I was thinking then I could un-tarp it on a sunny day. Well it's been raining here every day.

Just got home and looked into the boat, carpet was still soaked in spots. We have a break between storms, so I got the shop vac out and yea SIX GALLONS of water from the carpet!!!!!!

More storms on the way tonight, so I'm gonna re-tarp and set the fan back up. This will give me more motivation to build my lean-to off my garage so the toon has a parking space under roof.

What do you guys do in this situation???

Not a whole lot else you can do, but I'm curious. What are you using for a cover?

Factory mooring cover. It is a good cover with the vents on top of the poles. It lets air in at the rear around the ladder and it can get air in the front.

There is no water getting in from the tarp. All the water was still there from saturday on the lake.

I got caught in a bad rain storm once and put the boat away in the garage with the floor still wet. After two or three days the floor was still wet. I did the shop vac trick and pulled a good 5+ gallons of water:eek:

One thing that will help it dry faster is to put the boat at an angle so the water will run off the boat.

I would keep it uncovered until the rain is gone and the carpet is dry. My experience has been that water does little to harm carpet and upholtstery. The sun is is the killer.....

+1. When mine gets that wet I usually keep it uncovered until it dries out really well.

Yea that's what I'd like to do, but I don't want it getting wet under the seats from all the other rain storms we've been having.

I'm gonna get motivated on building the lean-to shed!!!!

Buy one to the 695.00 portable carports... You can have them raised for a tad bit more..

6 gallons?????

uh....dont empty your cooler on the carpet !

lol....:D

my friend.....its just a boat. its made to get wet.
you own it.....it dont own you....dont slave for it.

however...i can tell that you are a good boat owner because you actually took the time to vaccume the water from the carpet....that means you will also do a lot of other things to keep your toy safe....may it last you many years ! :)

yep....just let the air get at it....it doesnt take long.....and a fan under the covers is a good idea

cheers

mine was $1750 at 10ft tall and 31 ft long, when you start raising them the price jumps a lot. I my trailer is on 13" rims so it sets very tall and had to go high to clear.

But I think the best money I could have spent, I have about $500 in leveling the spot in the yard and gravel for it to sit on, but again money well spent. I feel so much better having my toon under cover. I will probably next summer close in three sides of it for more protection.

You may also consider my solution. A complete enclosure. It works great to keep it dry on the water or land.

That'd be fine except I 'd only be able to use half of our lake. We have a really low bridge. With the bimini layed back on the sundeck it only clears by 6" at full pool.

I love those enclosures, but I've sunk enough money for now into our resor. project. Maybe in another year or so. Were actually in So. Calif. so we have great weather most the time but I don't want to NOT go out just because it's too cold during the winters - so I think that's when the enclosure (even a half size) will be great!.

Finally got the lean built this fall

Finally got the lean built this fall

Well since this thread got dug up I thought I'd post pics of the addition I built myself for the boat. It's 12' wide 30' long. The tongue of the trailer sticks out a foot or two but serves the purpose well.

I think it turned out well.

Re: Finally got the lean built this fall

Last summer while out on the Chesapecke Bay ,This wave came out of no where, It hit the boat dead on and this was high enough to bust the front door open and flood the Deck. There must have been 10 inches of water coming in . Most of it drained off but the carpet was soaked. After we got the boat back to our summer place I screwed the loading lack down all the way after unhooking the trailer. The water poured off the boat. By the next morning the deck was dry again.
