i couldn't find the name of that bearing in my manual. there were ball bearings and metal pieces in side the bellows when i took it off. and the piece that the front of the bellows connects to looks like it had broken pieces off it.

EDIT:
Changed picture to links due to size.

Re: just went to replace bellows and found...

You have some serious problems there. The bearings in the engines bellhousing (aka intermediate bearings) are gone due to water. May have taken out the bellhousing also by spinning the bearing in the bellhousing.
You have a lot of work to do because of a faulty bellows that was never changed.
You will need to pull the engine at least to replace the bearings and possibly (probably) the bellhousing.
The drive is also going to need some work $$$$.

I would start looking on Craigslist and E-bay for used drives. I have seen some from Seattle for fairly cheap.

Have a great day,

Rob.

Yea, it's that bad. It may not need a new outdrive, but the upper gear box is going to need a new seal and metal seal ring on the shaft. Along with both ujoints, new intermediate shaft, bearings, seals, and bellhousing. When the bearings and shaft go like that, it wears out where the bearing should be a press fit in the housings so the bearing doesn't spin. With as far as that shaft has twisted, you know the flex plate and the pilot bearing in the crankshaft are toast.
That thing must have been making a lot of growling noise for a LOOOOOOONG time. That is not something that happens overnight.

That will not bolt to a Ford, you must find one for a Ford engine.

I say just grease 'er up and she will be fine. :)

Sorry, bad joke, ditto other advice, you see those drives abound pretty often for decent price. Still a bad day, sorry.

Might as well do the water intake fitting and the hose as well while the upper drive and bellows is out of the way. The fittings corrode away after just a few years, so it is due. The hose pokes thru from the inside, a little tricky there but still worth the effort.
