Just wonderin....

Hey guys I am finally just about finished up with all the prep and body work on my 17' century.

My questing is I have the entire boat sanded to 80 grit right now because for some reason I thought when I read the product info for I-Lux epoxy prime kote that it called for 80 grit but this morning I decided to have another look and it actually calls for between 120-220 grit.

I have read all over the place that it is an extremely high build primer so would it really matter to sand it to at least 120 or would 80 be ok? I just figure that with it being sanded to only 80 the first coat of primer would stick real well and I can follow the correct directions from there on out lol just mainly trying to avoid going over it again but if it will really make a big difference i will do it.

If it matters I plan to put on 2 coats of prime kote and at least 3 coats of perfection topside maybe more depending on results.

Anyways any info would be great and now that I have had some time to work on my boat I will have to update my build thread.

Ayuh,.... Seein' that it's all sanded,...
Shoot yer 1st coat of primer, 'n then sand with finer paper...

Just make sure you follow the MFG recommended cure times between coats for the primer and especially the color coats. This is extremely important. If you recoat before the previous coat has cured. The paint can remain soft for a significantly long time.

Your fine man .. 80 grit is just fine.

I think the reason for the 120-220 profile now being suggested is because of improper prep.

80 Grit is actually harder to prep the surface then 120. Its a deeper profile but less surface area ..therefore you can accomplish the same 'prep' profile with 120 faster ( and better ) then 80 grit.

ok perfect because it took me 2 days to clean the dust out of the garage and I would hate to make any more mess. I think from now on i am braving the cold and doing all of my sanding outside lol What a mess!!!
