I have 84 aq260 with a 290dp in a 19' tempest bowrider. I recently replaced the Rochester 4bbl carb, and installed a new electronic ignition system on it. I've been told that a K&N flame arrestor would be a good idea as well. And that it would add a bit more hp. Would it? Or will it be a waste of $$$?

Usually, I would say no, but The carbs are rated for Cubic Feet per Minute. Did you increase the CFMs ?

Well if the K&N provides better air flow and hence better performance, just test the boat without a flame arrestor and see how much difference you feel. The consensus on this in the 100 other times I've seen this question is that it is a waste of money.

Total waste of $$$$$. Save it and spend it at the gas pump.

Waste of money. Drive your boat and take off your flame arrestor. If the boat doesn't go any faster, a different flame arrestor won't do anything.
