Ready to put an 8' keel guard on my Rinker. Has anyone done this and NOT used the 3M 4200 Fast Cure Sealant? It says recommended on the instructions. Curious if it is absolutly necessary. If you have what quanity was used. A 3oz. tube is $12.00. Appreciate input from those who have this product.

What sealant? I put a Keel Guard on my boat and it used no sealant. I had to use the swab thing to prep the gelcoat let that dry, but the adhesive is a tape on the vinyl. (A very aggressive tape I might add.)

Never saw any sealant.

UFM82

Mine came with an edge sealant to keep moisture from getting underneath and causing the tape to fail..

Bought and installed my Keel Guard last summer. No sealant was included or mentioned in the installation instructions.

Re: Keel Guard Installation

I put a Keel Guard on last year and other than the bonding agent the kit didn't come with any sealant. I may be wrong but believe the sealant is only necessary if you put the Keel Guard on and needed to lift it off and then reposition it during the installation process.

I positioned mine on with duct tape first and scribed reference lines on each side of the keel so that the keel guard was positioned right the first time.

Thanks, Keel Sheild is the make I bought, not Guard. I checked their web site FAQ's and installation notes. Nothing was mentioned. Looks like the instructions were old.
