I have a 17 1/2 ft aluminum Crestliner with a 115 Yamaha. I have read about using Keel guard to protect the bow/hull when pulling up on beaches etc. Does anyone have any experience using it...and if so....how far back do you have to go with the keel guard to protect it? Or is this another gimmick?

Thanks for the help,
Glen

Re: Keel Guard

I don't mean to question your thinking. But why would
you put a keel guard on a boat with a keel made
like a Crestliner?
Scratching the paint a little on the bottom would
only give it some character.

They were designed for fiberglass to keep from wearing and chipping the glass away and thinning the hull. I dont think you will have to worry about that with an aluminum hull.

Re: Keel Guard

Thank you for the help...I was just concerned about keeping all the paint intact as much as possible but wasn't familiar with keel guard use.

Appreciate it.
Glen
