I would like to know how well the adhesive is with the KeelShield product? I have a 14' 6" aluminum '68 starcraft and was wondering how well the adhesive might hold up, opposed to the self sticking adhesive product KeelGuard? Also how hard and messy is it to apply the KeelShield product? Any input would be helpful! Thanks Jake3628)

Re: KeelShield adhesive

I put the keelshield on my Tracker Tundra 18' 2 summers ago, so this is its third year. I have had no problems and is still attached like the day I put it on. It is not hard at all but take your time. Do it when its hot as it makes it easier to form to the keel.
The keelshield does have a self sticking back to it but the activator you apply is what sets the whole ball rolling. The Activator is almost like an alcohol base as it does dry very fast. You don't want to waste time putting it on or you may find your self running out. I didn't but I could have.
Once you touch the keelshield to the hull where you have the activator put on it will not move, Be sure cause when it touches it sticks and sticks well. Just follow the directions, and you will be ok. You may want to pick up a tool for replacing screen moulding, it looks like a pizza cutter. Works great for helping to apply the Ksheild by getting into the grooves. If you do get one dont get the plastic but get a good metal one. One thing that gets this to stay is pressure when putting it on. And the last thing I did is to seal the seam all the way around with 3m sealer they recommend. I think I used the 4800, not the 5200.d:)
