Well after finally finding a suitable outboard for my boat a 2001 yamaha 115 2 stroke with 500 hours and really clean paid $2500 for it, my uncle is giving me his 2005 Suzuki 115 4 stroke with 300 hours. Wish I would have known this before I spent $2500. He's upgrading to a 150 Suzuki. Should I keep the 115 or put the Suzuki on? Is the Suzuki more reliable? Any known problems with this motor?

Sounds like a no-brainer. Keep the free motor....and sell the one you just bought.

Unless, of course your uncle with let you sell the one he gave you....then you're back at square one.

Do the 4 strokes really burn a lot less fuel?? That's really the only reason I'd change. I only had a 24 gallon fuel tank built into the new console.

Seems like a real toss up, newer motor slight fuel advantage w/higher maintainence/repair costs or the older reliable 2-stroke, I would choose the Yamaha, they are well known for there reliablility, and 2strokes are certainly less to maintain! Not certain but I would think the fuel savings if any may only offset the higher maintainence cost, but again for reliability I would choose the Yamaha less parts means less that can break!
