I have a rude 70 hp E70TLCRD I just had serviced. Carbs cleaned and new water pump and seals. It wasn't cheap and I want to make sure I keep this motor in excellent condition as it is now. It has only been used in fresh water, though I am planning on doing some salt water running.
What would be the ideal maintenance recommendations to keep the boat out of the shop for a long long time.
Your thoughts.

flushing the engine after every salt water use. keeping the zerk fittings greased, checking the lower unit fluid, changing lower fluid every fall before 1st freeze, always store in the running postion, the use of seafoam, add to the fuel/oil mix. changing the plugs yearly. change impeller every 2 years, use the motor, don't just let it sit. they don't like to sit. i start mine on muffs, every 2 weeks, minimum.

Re: Keep the motor running

Thanks for the info. I live in San Diego CA so I will be able to take it out at least once a month in the winter. Would seafoam keep the carbs polished as well as carbon build up to a minimum?

Follow the instructions in the Owner's Manual or the Service Manual to the letter.

Oh, before that: Get yourself a Manual.

I envy you guys in the warmer parts of the U.S..
Up here in the great white north, we fog each cylinder, change the lower gear lube and try to make sure there is no water in the engine or boat before we store them for 6 to 7 months. Then of course we have to unwinterize our boats for the next boating season. So far ( knock on wood ) I haven't had any problems getting back out onto the water each spring.
Boating year round would be great. I guess I've grown fond of our bone chilling winters here in WI., and the natural beauty all year round ain't so bad either.
Besides it gives us time to sharpen the hooks on all of those musky baits.

I have a manual and have read the maintenance section which does give a lot of good info.
The reason for this forum in my opinion, is to share knowledge and experience that you can't find in any manual.
So, if you know anything other than what's in the manual, any advice /tips or tricks would be nice.
Thanks
