Kevlar for transom plate?

Have access to .75" sheet scrap and am wondering if it could be a replacement for my aluminium plate i have now. Anybody have any knowledge of kevlar and it's use for this??

Its as strong as the epoxy it was made with, if you need better abrasion resistance then alum would be better.

Beyond the Kevlar re-enforcement, what else is in the sheet? epoxy? phenolic resin? Polyurethane? Kevlar generally adds quite a bit of tensile strength to a sheet, but without compounding the surface or creating a beam, you wont get much flexural strength. Also, what is the aluminum plate you are referring to?

I don't know much about kevlar, It's usually a skin that wraps around a structure.

What size boat are you putting this on and what size motor?

On my 12' Alum boat, I put 2 sheets of 1/2" plastic, one inside one outside and put a piece of 1/8" angled galvanized that covered the top and back. Results are great and I might not ever have to mess with it again.:)
