I installed one of these in my boat last season http://www.iboats.com/Heavy-Duty-St...2758226--**********.411368808--view_id.167945. I had no trouble till today, I went to turn the key and the whole switch spun in the dash causing the main battery and solinold wire to bust from the crimped eye let. Now I need to install new eyelets but what can I do to keep the ignition from spinning? The mount hole is completly round with notches and the ignition shaft and supporting nuts and lock nuts are plastic.

Any ideas?

Re: Key Ignition Issue

Sounds like to me you actually avoided a future problem. In my opinion proper connections should take more force than you are able to give on a start switch. I like to use non insulated type connector with heat shrink tubing. My expierence told me that this may always be a problem if the mounting hole with the notch is worn out. I used a small amount or polyurathane adhesieve and tightened her down good. That was several years ago. No problem yet. Others may have a better idea.

Sadly, I thought I did a good crimp job. As usual, I was wrong... LOL I will try the adheasive.

oooops, I wasn't saying you did a bad job. I was trying to blame it on somebody else. ;) Think your problem will be solved. Have fun.

Some 5200 under the backing nut will definitely help, like Sasto said. When you go to tighten her up, remove the starter lead, then put the key in so you have something to hold onto as you're tightening. Use a wrench on the nut, but don't go too tight as threads on a plastic housing can strip...and then you never get it tight!
