Key ignition wiring, Evinrude control box 80's

My son and I are fixing up a boat and desided to replace the ignition on the control box with another one that worked better. They both have 8 screws and are lettered the same on the back. Somewhere along the way I confused the wiring. Now we can't start the motor. Is this a lost cause? Is there an easy solution? Dave

Dave, I try not to mess around with engine and control box electrical if I can help it. There are other folks on this forum that have experience and are really good at it. I have a common, general outboard repair manual by Clymer for my ob. I think they have a repair manual for just about every ob. It has wiring diagrams and wire color codes in the back. I was able to troubleshoot and repair my control box (1970’s Johnson) using that. Sorry I can be more helpful.
