I read about Mickey Mouse key switches in Boating Magazine a few years ago. I din't think much of it but could not disagree.
Since I've been an outboard guy, until recently, I've never really dealt with "on dash" key switches.
My gawd, they are Junk!
Scenario: Sunday, I went to add some fuel conditioner to the fuel and run the I/O engine to get it through the system. I don't need to winterize here (Arizona) but the boat may sit for a month or two. Our fuel here is garbage so I thought I'd get a leg up on storage.
I went to start it and the key just turned around-WITH THE ENGINE CRANKING! I quickly cut the battery switch and stopped all the goings on. Man oh man am I glad this happened in the garage!
I removed the key switch to find it has completely failed, internally, and now just spins-failed to CRANK-No start.
Looking at it, I wouldn't put this on a riding lawnmower.
In the meantime, I have replaced the switch with a replacement "generic" part. You all know the brand name. It works but is flimsy. All is OK with the engine-BTW.
I want to replace the switch with a switch that has: Off, Acc., On. I want the start to be a seperate button.
I want to buy from iboats but didn't see what I was looking for. Am I missing something? A VERY high quality switch with those functions and seperate start button capabilty.
Ideas?
