I am interested in the key west 186 dc. Does anyone have any idea what a new 2008 should go for now? Also, what is a good motor to put on it? Are the 4strokes long lasting enough to make up for the price?

I looked at a triumph last weekend but thought the hull material was a bit funkey.

Re: key west 186 dc

Here in Florida the 186 dc seemed to be going toward the high twenties, low thirties with either a 115 or a 150 Yamaha four stroke. I think the 186 would be a little underpowered with the 115 since my 176 is powered with a 115 and that seems to be just right. Mine is about a month old and I am thrilled with it, it does everything I wanted it to do and more. For a small boat it handles seas really well. In a two to three foot chop it rode pretty dry and solid, no noise no flutter. I am looking forward to pushing it further.

Re: key west 186 dc

thanks for the reply to my post. I have another question. I am also looking at a 206 186dc with a 135 4st. honda for 19500. Supposedly it has 52 hrs on it. Is there a hour counter on the motor? Also, is this a reasonable price?

To the best of my knowledge there is not an hour counter on the motor itself. I am not en expert on Honda gauges and controls, never having owned one myself, but there should be an hour meter of some sort on the instrument panel. All things being above board that does sound like a pretty good deal. Honda makes a good 4 stroke and 135 is a good size for the boat. Just be sure to look everything over with great detail and go for a ride. In this market, I would consider making a lower offer, before settling on a price...Good Luck!

Re: key west 186 dc

Hi,
I purchased a 2008 Key West 186 DC in May 2008, powered with a 150 horse power four stroke yamaha.
I've had absolutely no problems what so ever with the boat or motor.

Re: key west 186 dc

I have a 2005 186dc w/ Yammi F150 power.
I really don't know what would be a good price for the boat these days, but I purchased mine w/75 hours on it almost two years ago for 19.5k and it had a bunch of extras & aluminum trailer. I felt I got a fair deal at the time.

As for the motor, I think if you are more inclined to fish the boat then the F115 or similar motor would be fine. However if you intend to ski, tube, and generally use it as a family runabout then the F150 is a hard motor to beat. With the F150 I get about 49 mph with a 18p prop at 6k RPM in good conditions. One of the best things I did was to add a set of Smart Tabs to the boat. See thread for details: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=252551

I've had bigger and more powerful boats, but frankly I haven't had a boat which gave me more pleasure. This thing is easy to store and launch single handed, easy to maintain and clean, easy on the wallet for fuel, works great with my small family, and is a solid performer. There are a couple other DC's worth looking at also (Pioneer and the new Key West 211DC), but you really can't go wrong with the KW 186dc if it meets your requirements. Good luck with your purchase.

Re: key west 186 dc

Thank you all for your replies to my message. I just put a down payment on a 2006 186dc with a 135hp honda. It was my first time close up look at a key west boat and I was impressed with the quality of the materials; stainless steel cup holders and steering wheel, hydraulic steering, lots of storage space. I was surprised at the size of the 135 4st. honda and amazed by all of the water intakes and drains at the stern. I hope my explorer pulls it OK? I think the total weight is about 3000lbs with trailer.
