Kicker Bracket Travel/Height

In a not too distant post I asked if a kicker motor was a good idea. OK, I was convinced and bought a used 15 HP 1997 Evinrude longshaft (22"). Now I need a bracket and am not sure what to do. I have a 1976 Sea Ray Cuddy with a 302 Ford and Mercruiser outdrive. I want to use this motor as my safety blanket but am not sure how to mount it. I have been looking at used brackets on Ebay and Craigslist and going to some manufactureres sites i.e. Garelick, and I see different maximum weight classifications, that I understand ...... but there are also different travel lenghts mentioned i.e. 9 1/2", 11 1/2", 15" ........ what do I need, what's better.
In that earlier post/question where I asked about a kicker, a member named "Boatist" I think showed some great pictures of his kicker, also made a comment about that if he did it again he would use a shorter travel kicker bracket. Well that's my question. How much travel is right .... will my control arm on the outboard work, will the prop be down far enough ...... I'm lost here and would sure appreciate any help, Thanks again.

Re: Kicker Bracket Travel/Height

You need to know where the water line is at the transom, work backwards from there. I have a fixed kicker mount , I'll have to wait until spring to get a water line mark and go backwards from there.
The outboard throttle arm folds up so that shouldn't be a problem when retracted.
