Kicker dies after a few hours trolling?

The last 2 times up to mountains(8500ft) my kicker dies after troling for a long time. After 3 or 4 hours of straight trolling it will start slowing down than it starts choking than finally dies. If I let it sit for 20-30min and fire it back up its good to go again. Its getting fuel as the bulb stays hard all the time. Its also peeing water just fine.

Anyone know why this could be?

-Jay

I have a 5hp mariner that does the same, but my geuss would be that it cuts out when it gets too hot from operating too long, once it cools down it runs great again, I don't think these little motors are made too run for such long periods of time ....

1st guess...Its running too lean due to altitude.
it may need a different jet for high alditude.

I thought the same thing but why would it take hours for it to effect it?

ThX

-Jay

How does time effect how hot the engine gets? Once the engine is warmed up and the thermostats are open, it will run at approximately the same temp after 5 hours as it will after 5 minutes. Length of time running will have no effect on how hot the engine gets. As for the dying issue, I can't help. Those type of issues are some of the worst to diagnose. It could be in the engine, the fuel line or even in the remote tank. If it slowly dies it's a fuel issue, I can at least say that much.

UFM82

The little motors are made for that and have been doing long days of trolling ever since they wer invented. The only thing I ever use my kicker for (9.8 merc.) is trolling - 8-10 hours a day. It never conks out because of that use. There's gotta be something else going on.
