Kicker motor bracket

I currently have an auxiliary motor bracket that has the hydraulic cylinder in it which makes lifting the motor very easy. However, I do not like the fact that when in the up position, it has a lot of play in it. You can actually grab the motor mounting plate and wiggle it back and forth a bit. Because of this, I am afraid the motor is going to bounce around a lot more than it should. When it is in the down position, it is rock solid and doesnt move at all. So I am kind of afraid to trailer it with the motor on there. I am also getting a new motor that may be in the very upper range of its capacity. I used to have a light motor on here (about 40 pounds or less and only put it on when I was goign to use it, not while trailering) and I am wondering if I should get a new one that is rated at about 20-30 pounds over the weight of the motor I may be getting, and hopefully not bounce. I was looking at this one at cabellas, Motor bracket <br />the stainless steel mounting bracket for $124.99. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it pretty easy to lift a 80-90 pound motor with the springs as compared to the hydraulic? And does anyone know if this is solid when up and if you can trailer with it? A dealer told me that with my mount, the manufacturer does not recommend trailering with it. If this is the best route to take, I figure I could sell the old one, as it is this particular one I found on ebay Current Bracket Which route should I go? Thanks.

Re: Kicker motor bracket

The dealer was correct. These auxilliary motor brackets all say not to leave the motor attached when trailering. Doing so voids warranty and can damage your transom, and possibly the motor and bracket.

So you're saying on any bracket it says not to trailer? Ok well thats not a problem taking it off while trailering. Seems to me though you get more bounce in the water than on the road. I am still a little concerned about all the play in it while up though. Do you think thats a problem? If there was a way to ajust the hydraulic so there is a little bit of pressure on it while all the way up, it would keep it solid, just like it keeps it solid while down because there is pressure on it.

Al, How about putting a heavy duty bungee cord on it when it's up. It should take away the play.
