Kicker motor has to be angled

We have a 61' Evinrude 5.5 for a kicker motor on our 76' Starcraft Supersport (deep V) and while it pushes us OK I have to run it at an angle to go straight. If I hold it straight the boat goes right sharply. I can deal with it but I know it is not very efficient. What I suspect is one of these possibilties. I have the 55hp main motor down at all times, since it has no tilt mechanism left (someone saw fit to remove it) so maybe the motor is causing this, maybe the fact that the kicker is not centered like the main motor, or, perhaps the motor it not long enough. Any thought?

You hit the jackpot.
It will never drive like the main motor just for that reason.
