Well I wasn't going to comment on this one seeing as I have no experience with the matter but since no one else has.....

In my opinion, you can certainly leave the motor mounted. Any forces on the mount during towing will surely be much less than those endured by the motor pushing the boat. However, you will want to do whatever you need to do to minimize any bouncing. That's what's hard on things.

Maybe tilt motor up and rest on a 2"x4" board, then use a bungee to hold it down firm. Just keep it from bouncing around on the highway! Good Luck!

Re: kicker motor mounts and trailering

Here's what I've been doing for 27 years and have not had an issue yet....

I mounted a 4" SS cleat on the front of the OB motor bracket in between the motor's clamp brackets. Then mounted another one just forward on the rear deck of the boat. Both were thu-bolted and I selected a model that matched the boat's original hardware.

I tie a line between the 2 cleats and snug it down tight by hand. The motor is put into reverse, so the reverse lock keeps the motor locked down. That sucker is tight as can be and I see no bouncing at all. In fact, with that same configuration I see no bouncing in the water either, no matter how rough the seas are.

Keep it down! It isn't any where near the road anyway. Tilting an outboard up on a bracket is going to be even worse than tilting the main outboard up to get road clearance.
