( every time) but if i slam it to wot it runs. just dies when i put it into gear at idle..i never took it off the trailer .. just got back home and have no clue why it does that .. this is an 88 bayliner caprie 1900 bow rider w/ a 1988 125 hp force outboard. does any one have any idea why it would do that ? i told the kids my friends on here are really smart and could help us out and we might be able to try again tommorrow.. thanks for any help yall could give..

sound like my problem, on my situations the boat runs fine witht dogs ears, but in the water keeps dying cuz is not running in all cylinders, so when it has a load it doesnt have have enough power to push the boat and it dies, check your cylinder make sure all are firing if so then check compresion

When shifting into forward gear and motor tries to stall hit the choke and see if that improves or kills the engine. If it improves I would suspect carbs or link and sync. If it kills I would look at ignition and compression.

Might want to adjust your idle as well. I had a similar problem, was a low idle in neutral, even lower in forward. Just bumped the idle up a bit. I don't know the ideal idle is at, but I would think around 900-1000RPM at idle and 700-800RPM in forward.

Good luck!

Watching bass fishing is almost as bad as actually bass fishing.

Did you check the idle quest?

You might want to check and see if your exaust boot is torn and leaking which will kill the engine once you put it in the water. Even a little tear could cause a problem like yours, I went through the same thing. If you look down inside the motor on the back side (w/ cover off) and you should see a 'cv' style boot that conects to the two holes out the back of the motor. Very inexpensive part to replace, around 20 bucks. It consists of the boot itself which will come with a new spring that inserts in the boot and then you should also get the spacer that goes on the tapered end of the boot. Try that and let me know......I was in your shoes two weeks ago. Don't sell it just yet, It's well worth it once you get out there!!:D
