Hi I have two questions concerning an 18HP winfast 1966 Question 1) the kill switch, since all it does is to ground the motor why could I not use a regular switch (on off). From the picture you can see that all I have to do is to close the circuit by touching the 2 metal points with a screwdriver, so if all that needs to be done is to open or close the circuit… then why not a regular switch?
Question 2) What is the low speed mixture knob for? How do I set it and use it?
Hi, Jose.

Your kill switch was a pushbutton switch when it was made. Part of it is gone. A replacement switch from your JohnnyRude dealer or NAPA shouldn't cost you very much.

For low speed mixture adjustment you should have a manual. Carefully read the section on theory of operation so you understand what happens when you change this setting, then follow the instructions.

Good luck. :)

Jose,

Yes you could use a two position key switch or a togle switch. The key switch would work backwards though. Off being On and visa versa.

The jet is a bit trickier, as JB indicates. Typically, you can turn the jet all the way in CAREFULLY (do not overtighten).

Back the jet out about two turns.

Start the engine and observe the idle once it is fully warmed up.

If the engine wants to sneeze or backfire, it's too lean, turn the jet out slightly, let the engine recover and see how it idles.

You will have to find a happy medium between lean and rich. It will change with temperature (ambient).
