1972 65 hspr. Evinrude. Not getting spark to plugs. We believe its a defective kill switch. On the solonoid, one of the wires on the small bolt on the side goes to the kill switch. If that is removed and a wire replaced it going to ground, and the kill switch wire going to the power pack is removed, would this isolate the kill switch, to determine if it was bad. Would it also have to be removed from the ignition switch, or wouldn't that be necessary.
Thanks
Skip

Re: Kill Switch

hello
on a 72 65 3 cyl it should still have an amplifier ign. if it does it does not use a kill switch and is hydro-electric shift. the switch you are refering to is a safty switch that wont allow the engine to crank over if the throttle is to far advaced.
good luck but remember this ign system is nothing like a magneto ign on an outboard. this one kills by removing 12 volts to the amplifier.

Re: Kill Switch

The 1972 65hp incorporates the Magneto Capacitance Discharge ignition system, the same as the 1973 up models. Disconnecting the black/yellow wire from the powerpack will eliminate the kill switch circuit.

However, by the same token, it will also eliminate the kill circuit in the ignition switch. To check the ignition switch, reconnect the black/yellow wire to the powerpack, then disconnect that same wire from the ignition switch. If you now have spark, the kill switch is okay but the ignition switch is faulty.
