my girl, noklu and i were boating on lake kalamalka.......a severe thunderstorm whipped up.......we stayed on shore and watched one of the hundreds of lightning strikes less than ten miles away......it was kinda smokie in the area giving a weird red tinge to some flashes

(our area was hit by a strike in "05 starting a huge fire that turned into a fire storm and evacuated over 50'000 homes and burnt 250 to the ground....)

after the storm blew over we went fishing...after we were done we dropped noklu off at the dock and putted back to the boat launch....dead calm....really nice evening slow cruise....

another thunder storm came up from behind the mountain......i throttled up and huging the far coast line, i started to get our butts off the lake. we watched several big strikes just over the mountain......

then i saw it....a birght red glow in the trees....right in the area where lightning had just struck. just behind the mountain we camp at...above the red glow....was the smoke.

i grabbed the phone....and called 911.....they connected me to the provincial forest fire service,,,,,,i had throttled back the boat and shut the motor off so i could speak to the fire operator....she asked where it was.....as we were speaking....the boats angle to the mountain changed...and my view of the fire had changed....the fire started to get a circular look to it ???

then i realized.....it was a moon rise ! the smoke was a break in the clouds...and the red glow was smoke in the area.......it looked exactally like a fire. i apoligised to the operator and the 911 operator that was still on the line....they both said it happens all the time.....but !

any one else ever get fooled?

I have a similar story....

I work field service out of Las Vegas, NV and travel all over the area. One winter evening I was traveling back home and skirting the infamous "AREA 51", yes little green men and flying saucers if you believe in all that stuff.

As I traveled south directly east of Area 51, I noticed an errie glowing light that was hanging right below the mountains. I was keeping track of the light, and as I drove it followed just below the ridge line. This went on for half an hour and the situation getting the best of me since the light was following my car,,, but obscured by the mountains. I pulled the car over and watched the glowing light, it just sat there right below the ridge line, taunting me,, saying HA HA come and get me. I thought to myself,,, this has got to be some super secret government project going on here! I hopped back in the car and sure enough, the strange glowing light once again started pacing my car while keeping itself obscured behind the mountains.

The glowing light followed me for another hour as I traveled south and I knew it was either going to head back to base or It was going to reveal itself once I got past the mountains.

Sure enough, just as I got past the last hill in the range it came into view, it was the moon

Hey, at least it wasn't the little green men with all their probing and such :D

OOps Iv see those blood moons when i use to live up in the Chilcotin/Caribou area. And yes when thay first come up it looks like the earth is on fire. But nothing like making your self embarasted. I bet the forest service got a good laugh out of it.:)
