Hey all,

I wanted to check my impeller out and when I did I noticed some blueish grey goop. (see pic).

I thought it looked like lubricant so thought I better check drive oil. Level looked good but color looked awful same blueish grey. The drive hasn't missed a beat and I didn't see any metal shavings anywhere so perhaps we are good on that front.

Anyone care to offer some conjecture on what they think is going on and what my options are?

Thanks

There is an oil seal in there. It can be a pain in the you know what to get to it. But apparently it is bad.

---could it be the water pump shaft seal? If so, wondering if I converted to a crank driven pump and eliminated the impeller if my problem here might be mitigated?

oddly, I just put this thing back into service about three months ago and prior to that the drive checked out on both vaccum and pressure test. ...bummed that I may have another project ahead of me, I just want to use the boat right now and focus on some other projects I have to get to.

-----Just pulled the pump housing off, I'm going to see if I can press in a new impeller shaft seal in the next day or two so I can have this thing for labor day weekend. Hope that solves the problem,

Wish me luck.

No, because you will still have the water pump shaft.
