Yeah...

I had an 87 King Kobra Dog-clutch model.

Yours is a cone clutch model that is the infamous "interim" drive.

That one is more rare than all the previous drives because they only made it for a couple of years. It's not the same as the Cobra SX/VP SX drive.

1. You're going to need an OEM service manual of the correct year that specifies your model number.

2. There's not a lot of places that will have anyone that went to the OMC school on that model...... So anyone working on will probably say $Sure! I'll have a look$$

3. You may be able to put a Volvo Penta drive on it and you can certainly do what I did. (you probably also have the Spitfire ignition. You cannot buy parts for it either)

There's certain models of OMC that you just cannot get certain parts for anymore because there's no OMC. On those models that they only made a few, the "aftermarket" is not supporting them because there's not enough out there for them to make any money.

I wish I had better news for you.

Sorry about that.

Yeah.....you're going to have to do a little research. There is a way to put a Volvo Penta drive on the back of the on the earlier Cobras.

I don't know about the "interim" one though.

I will say that when I swapped out mine, I recovered about $3400 from selling ALL the OMC King Cobra "stuff" and I still have a few other parts to "off"...

Good luck.

Re: king cobra please help

If the OP has the old King Cobra with the cone clutch, the Volvo drives WILL NOT replace it.
