King Cobra Water Pump Impeller Housing

I had my steel impeller liner spin in the housing on the last trip out. I used contact cement to both surfaces to hold it in place but it must have not been for wet use. Any recommendations for affixing stainless to plastic? I've thought of JB weld but service manual says gasket sealer is what to use. Any Marine Mechanics seen this problem or have a better idea?

Thanks

Mike,

I hate to say it but I think you might want to consider going to an engine mounted raw water pump and thru-hull or transom pick-up. In the mean time, I would probably epoxy that thing in place. Just under stand that when you do do that, you probably won't be removing it.

Rick, I know that will be the eventual cure, but I need to keep going with this setup until I run out of impellers. I don't know why that last liner spun, I put dawn dishwashing liquid in it the night before heading for the lake, but the next one will be in there permanently like you say. The liners and housing are still available but not cheap. Thanks for your help and advice over the last year +. You have been of great help.

I think I will score up the surfaces and epoxy it in like you said.

Good luck trying to fix the old one. Once the cage has spun, or even turned a little, it requires a new housing. While it appears to be a simple system it does require more precise assembly. The wear plate and gasket need to be properly set with gasket sealing compound on a clean flat surface. Silicone spray or glycerin are much better than detergent for lubrication.

you can use anything including gear oil or motor oil.......vegetable oil, fish oil, snake oil.................

But that only helps on initial startup. After you run it even for a few moments, ALL the "lubrication" is GONE (immediately)

Then on the very NEXT startup, the only "lubrication" is WATER!

Not trying to fix old parts. I have the new liner and housing (didn't clarify) and am asking for adhesive advice.
