Knee Board VS. Wake Board

I have a 16ft center console fiberglass boat that weighs 1100lbs with a 70 Johnson. I can pull a person with a knee board OK, but I was wondering if I will have enough power to get someone with a wake board up. Will either one of these boards destroy my motor before its time? Any comments?

Re: Knee Board VS. Wake Board

Should be absolutely no problem. To the best of my recollection, we have kneeboarded @ about 16-18 mph. Wakeboarding you won't want to go any faster than 25 or so. Your boat should do that easily, I had a buddy with an old Seaswirl deep-v and a 70 hp Yamaha, which could reach 36-38mph, I assume yours can do about the same? Oh yeah, and while wakeboarding, remember it's actually easier to jump the whole wake, and more, rather than just trying to land inside the wake.

Good Luck and Happy W-boarding

WILL

I agree. Neither should be a problem. Until late last year, I used a 50 hp evinrude (83 model) to pull a kneeboard for about five years. My boat was an old center console. It pulled my teenage son on skis equally well. We never tried a wake board, but he frequently did stunts on the kneeboard including standing up.

Walt,

I was just reading some older postings and noticed that you had the same motor that I now have. I was just wondering if you would pass on any info you have on it. Your opinion and experience with that motor would be excellent.

Thanks,

Jason

I agree, wakeboard should be no problem. I've used a early 80's merc 70 without difficulties.

Be prepared to "rattle your noggin" the first few times on the wakeboard. Doing a face plant from a standing position hurts a lot more than from the kneeling postion.

Have fun!
