Don't miss Ambassador Annan's comments about the USA in his speech this afternoon in America's heartland.

What a country! We pay the bills, gloss over the thug's actions, then stand by while he hammers us. Love that United Nations.

How many remember the long drawn out process that took place while the UN "debated" the situation pre-Iraq war? A textbook case in obfuscation, delaying tactics, and double-talk.

I tried to find how much the US gives to that useless body a year, but couldn't find it. Anyone have a link?

I think we're to within $600 million or so of being caught up. As I understand it, we have a law prevents us from paying more than 25% of the UN peacekeeping budget but our assessment is more like 27%. Seems to me kind of like thumbing our noses at 'em - I like the idea of that, but don't tell anybody I said so.

So who pays more than us? I say send the piece of cr*p to France or Iran. By his remarks and the actions of China and Russia, I say we're wasting a lot of money that could go to social programs instead (that's for the libs). And what does 27% equal in dollars?

I'm not saying abandon the UN in total, just let the others keep it a float instead of the USA.

What's really funny, Japan is the second biggest contributor.... right behind US.

Russia.... 1.1%
China...... 2.053%
France.... 6.03%
England...6.127%

I'm with you on not abandoning the UN, the USSR did a boycott in the 50's and look what it cost them... Korea.

I would like to see US contribute no more than the other BIG 5, maybe then some of the free-loaders would either divy up or get out.
