My kohler gen will start up and run for sometimes 5 mins or an hour. I have to reach down and prime the fuel pump with the leaver on the bottom of the fuel pump. Whats going on????

Do have to continously prime it after this period to keep it running? or just prime it once and away you go for a few more minutes?

Could be vapor lock, or a bad fuel pump diaphram

I have to prime it quite often for it to run.

Well it could be fuel pump related.

Unfortunatly those fuel pumps need to be replaced. They do make a rebuild kit, but they have a extremely high failure rate once repaired. Replaced is a much better option.

Lets go simple here first to rule out some simple stuff. Have you tried to clean out the carb. I would at the very least drop the carb bowl and make sure there is no debris in there. This is a common issue for having to reprime the engine.

Next thing I would try is next time it starts to die. Remove the fuel cap and see if the engine keeps running. If it does then you need to replace the fuel cap. Sometimes they won't vent properly and as you empty fuel out of the bottom you get a "vapor lock", essentially a vacume in the tank that won't allow any fuel to enter the carb.

Sounds like it is a E-10 related failure:eek::eek:
Time to change out ALL of the flexable fuel lines and clean the carb.
