Last year I bought a 288 villa vee, no gen onboard. Found a guy on c-list selling 2 kohler gennies. One running, one for parts. Trying to get the boat ready for this season and would love to install the gen. I can't find the damn starter!!! I even had a guy who rebuilds starters and alternators, many years in the biz, tell me it doesn't have one. He says he thinks the lowermost waterpump actually turns the crankshaft via belt. Is that possible? There is a plate mounted in front of the crankshaft, so starting with a crank is impossible. The waterpump is mounted on the right side of the bracket. The heat exchanger is mounted ontop of same bracket. Please help, I dont know how to begin starting this thing. The "pro" says there is no way the magneto will turn the motor over. The parts gen is identical to the running.
