kohler genset won't keep running

Got a Kohler 6.5 cz generator in my 33 Carver aft cabin. The generator will crank but will only run as long as I hold the start switch.. dies as soon as I let go. Anyone with similar trouble out there with a diagnosis?

Oil level switch------check oil level
A/C voltage regulator failure------check the three fuses on the control box. If it's not producing 120 volts it will not continue to run.

Are you letting go of the switch as soon as it fires? Just bought my boat and had the Kohler repaired. I have to hold the switch until guage shows it is producing power.

Not sure exactly, maybe 5 seconds.
