I have 1991 120hp L Drive lower unit that needs to be replaced, is there any other lower unit that is interchangeable with my L drive unit?

Re: L Drive Questions??

Not an expert but The L drive is one of a kind.It might be possible that some of the lu internals will interchange with other Force units.
The L drive is a very problematic setup. Not easy to convert to other systems or to outboard power.Parts are difficult to find. they are noted for being under powered.I'd be parting it out and looking elsewhere.
Also would check the boat carefully for rot in floor and transom before doing much to the drive.

Re: L Drive Questions??

....as well as the good deal from roadrash you might want to quickly check e-bay and grab some L-drive shafts that I saw there yesterday.
Between those two acquisitions you might be on the water faster, sooner and cheaper than you thought.
Maybe enough to get you through till next spring/season.
Go for it & good luck.

Re: L Drive Questions??

I never knew about these L-drive units and their dubious history before joining this forum earlier this spring.
I thought I was hard done by when I missed an opportunity early this spring to buy a Bayliner Capri with a 125hp L-Drive. I'm glad I was a little late for that deal. Their peculiarity seems to make it difficult to repair them.
However with respect to the boat they came in, I like the look and design of the Capri....ideally I think the best target option for that model would be one with the i/o option...probably 4.3.
Good Luck
